Summertime at LIFT

When the final dismissal bell rings to welcome summer, a lot of teens’ schedules slow down (big time) and a quieter schedule certainly can be a good thing! It allows for more rest, potential social time, hours that can be spent outdoors, or employment and income for some.

We recognize, though, that the quiet can also bring forth some unpleasant experiences for our teens; isolation, instability around meals, a decrease in physical activity and academic backsliding.

With that in mind, and with a constant desire to connect with our participants regardless of time of year, LIFT’s Summer Programming was created in 2022, and has only grown more robust since, as our footprint has grown throughout Leelanau County.

This year's program will run throughout June, July, and August, with limited no-cost transportation available, to help reduce isolation and eliminate the transportation barrier that is a reality for so many of our young people, especially those with guardians working full-time.

This year, programming for rising 6th - 8th graders will be offered three days per week, while rising 9th - 12th grade students will have access to weekly or bi-weekly activities.

All programming, regardless of age group, is hosted at no cost, and is open to students residing in Leelanau County.

School wraps up for all our Leelanau County students by the 12th of this month, and we simply cannot wait for all the bonfires and beach days, hikes, art classes and field trips to get underway.

Best summer ever, here we come…again!
